Écho de l'Éphémère

Every year, as Remembrance Day approaches in the UK and poppies begin to appear everywhere, I feel inspired to paint them. Yet somehow, until now, I never have.

I have always been drawn to their delicate shapes and the way the flowers seem to float above their long, slender stems. I was also delighted to work with Alizarin Crimson, one of my favourite colours, which gives the petals their rich, deep red tones.

The three poppies rise gracefully across the natural wood, their softly shaped petals contrasting with the fine green stems and gently curling leaves. I wanted to capture their lightness and elegance, allowing the natural grain of the wood to remain part of the composition.

Écho de l'Éphémère — Echo of the Fleeting — is a quiet reflection on remembrance, the lives lost in war and the hope for a more peaceful future.
